Fountain pen shops of Kanto

OUR HIGHLIGHTS:

The above google map contains a more complete list of shops in the Kanto area, however we particularly recommend the shops below.

Mita Sanshodo

Located in Tatebayashi City, Gunma prefecture, Mita Sanshodo is a third-generation family-owned stationery shop approaching its 100th anniversary. They are especially well-known for their line of scented fountain pen inks, produced by Kuretake in unique glass bottles. The bottles can also be purchased by themselves. Mita Sanshodo also has a number of store exclusive fountain pens produced in conjunction with Sailor and Platinum, as well as the store’s own original pen, the Katana, which sports a sword-shaped clip.

Ueno Stationery

Based in Tochigi Prefecture's largest city of Utsunomiya, Ueno Stationery is a multi-floor stationery shop that handles a variety of goods. They state that they carry fountain pens made by Pilot and Sailor, as well as Cross. They also carry two original scented inks, based on Strawberries and Lemons (for which Tochigi prefecture is famous).

Hi-Note

Hi-Note is a chain of stationery stores inside Gunma prefecture. They typically have well-stocked fine writing sections, with a selection of Japanese fountain pens, as well as models from other makers such as Pelikan and Kaweco. They sell entry-level pens as well as a small stock of more high-end collectible pieces, depending on the store. They also have their own line of original fountain pen inks. The chain also holds various events such as pen repair clinics or calligraphy tutorials. The Takasaki branch is their most well-stocked location.

Joyful Honda

Joyful Honda is a small chain of department stores in Kanto. This shop has a particularly large stationery section, complete with a well-furnished fine-writing section, carrying fountain pens from all major Japanese Brands, as well as some from European makers such as Kaweco and Pelikan.
The Nitta branch, taking up a large portion of the second floor of the building, is particularly well-stocked, and also have a small selection of high-end used pens from makers such as Delta. All Joyful Honda stores stock their own original line of inks based on natural landmarks of the Kanto area, made by sailor.
