HERITAGE MEETS MODERNITY

Kyuseido merges the best of traditional artistry and modern techniques, resulting in the story of the people and products that aspire to capture emotions in motion.

At the heart of Kyuseido lies the desire to showcase the incredible beauty of our collective heritage, but revive it in a way that pushes the boundaries of what was into what can be. From breathing new life into beloved Japanese brocades to reimagining lost fountain pen complications, every item is designed to respect the ingenuity of the giants whose shoulders we stand upon by continuing their legacy into the future.

Welcome to Kyuseido, a world where heritage meets modernity.

Feature Corner

Ian Scarborough of the United States Pacific Northwest is a young and upcoming lacquer artist. Ian is a self-taught artist who found passion in combining his love for pens and Urushi lacquerwork. We collaborated with Ian because of his eye for detail and masterful sense of colour.

For this collection, we focused on the classics: Tamenuri and Ishime.

While deceptively simple, these techniques can often be much more difficult to achieve due to the low tolerance for error. The clean lines and finish of these pens showcase Ian’s skill and the results of his dedication to the craft.

We are proud to have Ian’s work as part of Kyuseido’s history and we hope that you will love Ian’s work just as much as we do.

CORE VALUES

Community

Quality

Integrity

Everything we do has to match our core beliefs. That’s why we actively seek out artisans who are masters of their craft to create a portfolio of products that capture emotions in motion. This includes product designers, lacquer studios, independent artists, and storytellers that all work together to provide you with the experience of our collective heritage.

On top of this, we are in-house fountain pen professionals at heart. We inspect, test, and tune every single Kyuseido pen to write out of the box. Even if you don’t own a Kyuseido pen, we understand that everyone has their favorite pen, so we offer custom tuning and grinding services for your existing pens regardless of brand. Our expertise is turning your pens into specialised tools to draw out the potential of your handwriting.

※ Kyuseido is currently a small team operation, and we work to make sure that you can get the absolute best when you buy from us. There is currently no guaranteed timeframe for fulfilling orders, and custom orders are based on the working queue. If you have any questions about your order, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us via email or Instagram.
